Our Adult Program
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is rooted in self-defense, and has been adopted by the U.S. Military as well as law enforcement agencies around the country. Founded on efficient movements and refined throughout the decades by the Gracie family and their students, this combat-tested method is intended to teach practical self-defense through submission grappling and the striking arts. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been specifically designed to defend against punches, kicks, chokes, headlocks, bear hugs, and many other common forms of street aggression. You will learn not only techniques specific to certain situations, but also universal self-defense strategies through a comprehensive look at up-to-date grappling and self-defense techniques. Your fitness will improve through a comprehensive warm-up and physical conditioning program included in every single class.

Our Adult Basic Program
The Basic program is designed to introduce you to the basics of standing and ground grappling. These techniques have been tested and refined through decades of study. The goal of the Basic program is to provide a firm foundation for an understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, grappling and self-defense, while beginning to condition your mind and body for a safer, stronger, fitter lifestyle.

Our Adult Advanced Programs
After completing the Basic program, you will have the opportunity to enter the Advanced programs. Over the course of these programs, you will learn new techniques and combinations, improve your reaction time, and refine your current knowledge.

At this level of training, you will have already established a firm foundation in Jiu-Jitsu, and will be able to build the basics into a more comprehensive understanding of leverage and efficiency. The Advanced programs offer randori (open training) and extensive no-gi grappling, in addition to more complex grappling, throwing, striking and clinching techniques.

Our Juniors Program
Our Juniors program focuses on physical as well as mental fitness for our students. The goal is for children to learn self-confidence and self-respect along with self-defense. Classes combine the basics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing with skill-oriented games to improve gross motor skills, coordination, and agility. Moreover, we teach children that the martial arts are not to be used in aggression. Aggressiveness is channeled into assertiveness to improve students’ attitude, behavior and character. Our program also helps shy children to develop self confidence and become more assertive and able to make the right decisions when confronted with unhealthy peer pressure.

  • Testimonials

Though I had not trained in any form of wrestling or martial art preceding my enrollment at Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I have had several eye-opening conversations with practitioners of the myriad other martial arts that are available for study. In general, I have come away with a profound appreciation of the intellectual and humane approach to the training and practice of the techniques we are learning in class.

I feel that I am a person of compassion and empathy, and I consider myself very lucky to know that I am afforded a choice if I am ever in a position in which I must use the highly effective techniques I have learned in class to not hurt my opponent and walk away.
